Question:
Our group was wondering if the Jewish people still offer sacrifice today and is it an animal as in the past.
Answer:
The Jewish people have not offered sacrifices (in Hebrew, qorbanot), animal or otherwise, since the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple by the Roman Empire ca. AD 70. The Torah (or Law = the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures) forbids offering sacrifice anywhere other than the Jerusalem Temple on Mount Zion. Orthodox Jews look forward to the day when the Temple can be rebuilt, and the sacrifices resumed. Not all Jews are of the opinion that this is necessary or even desirable.
